Consumed around the world as a nutritious, protein-rich dried bean, The Broad Windsor Fava Bean is also tasty as a shell bean. This cold hardy bush-type plant grows to 3'-4' with unusual black and white blossoms. The huge beans have a creamy, nutty flavor, and the leaves can be eaten fresh or cooked. High yields make this nitrogen fixer a multi-tasker in the fall and winter gardens of all grow zones.

I just received my fava bean seeds for this year but I grew them last year and started them inside in February and planted them out in mid March in zone 7. They did well, produced a lot of beans and then the tomatoes I planted afterwards seemed to thrive. So I think the beans may have improved the s...

Favorite fava

These make large seeds for fresh eating. I boil salt and eat. Spring 2020 the plants were 3-4ft and needed support when they got heavy with pods. I had to fence them in once the chipmunks caught on. Growing more fall 2021 for a spring/summer 2022 harvest.
